A Quiet Revolution
From CISO to Founder
For over twenty years I served as a Chief Information Security Officer, leading cyber security for enterprise companies. I had watched colleagues and peers fall to burnout, and I was aware of mindfulness yet, being neurodiverse, none of the conventional approaches resonated.
In 2023, life intervened. A convergence of difficult events sent my stress and anxiety to a level I could no longer ignore. I believed I was managing until my body decided otherwise. Debilitating neck pain reduced my life to painkillers and regular physiotherapy. Something had to change.
I moved to a quiet village by the sea and began to learn freediving. It was a revelation. For the first time, I was taught to breathe with my whole diaphragm and to instruct my own brain to soften and settle as I glided along the floor of the pool.
I kept investigating more physiotherapy, then an MRI. It came back clear: no disc pressing on a nerve, nothing structural to explain the pain. And yet the pain remained. As I learned more about how chronic stress reshapes the body, the pieces began to fall into place. I had not injured my neck. I had been so chronically stressed that my body had broken down in place of my mind.
What I needed became clear. Break the grip of chronic stress. Give my nervous system a way out of permanent fight-or-flight and, above all, a way back down. Rebuild through simple movement, better posture, and diaphragmatic breathing. Learning to read my body revealed what was wrong and how to work with it. Freediving became my practice, and the lens through which I began to live differently. Together, they remade my life and I began to realise how many others might benefit from the same shift.
